Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Jennifer R. Ludwig, DDS, MS
Dr. Jennifer Ludwig is a dedicated orthodontist and embraces the uniqueness of each patient which makes working with people fun. Her practice philosophy is clear and simple: Providing patients with exceptional care in an entertaining and enjoyable environment.
Dr. Ludwig went to Ohio State University where she earned her DDS degree. She completed her general practice residency at the Medical College of Ohio. She holds a MS in Orthodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Dr. Ludwig is a native of Toledo, OH and loves to stay connected to her community. She is involved with the Sylvania Chamber of Commerce and Bedford Business Association. Dr. Ludwig is currently serving as Major in the Ohio Air National Guard. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Great Lakes Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, and Ohio Dental Association.
In her free time, she enjoys a wide array of outdoor activities — rollerblading, biking, boating, and skiing — plus, any other activities her three young nieces talk her into.
Dr. André Haerian, DDS, MS, FRCDc, PhD.
Dr. André Haerian is an innovator, a scientist, a teacher, and a world-class practitioner. Through a combination of education, practical experience, dedication to lifelong learning, and community involvement, Dr. Haerian has achieved the knowledge necessary to create perfect smiles for all his patients.
Dr. Haerian completed his DDS degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1993. While at McGill, he was honored with numerous prizes and awards for achievements in academics, practical skills, and overall excellence in treatment. In 1995, Dr. Haerian received his MS in Orthodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy. He then attended the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry where he earned his PhD in Oral Health Sciences.
Fluent in English, French and Farsi, and learned in clinical research design, Dr. Haerian holds a breadth and depth of knowledge that facilitates great orthodontics, both practical and educational. Loving what he does, he continues to give back to his community as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. As he puts it, "Teaching gives me an opportunity not only to share what I've learned, but also the chance to elicit enthusiasm and excitement about orthodontics."
Dr. Haerian works hard but he plays hard, too. For exercise, he hits the road with his running partner, Lexie, a rescued greyhound. He also enjoys snowboarding on some of the highest mountains in the world and also rock climbing. He is attaining "new heights" as he is currently working on getting his pilot license

Deana Butler CDA, COA
Marketing Director/Treatment Coordinator
Joined the team in 1989
Deana handles all aspects of our marketing including our website, the Hub, promotional materials, t-shirts, brochures, and contests. She excels at portraying HLS in living color! She has been on board the longest of any staff member, so shining the spotlight on our offices and doctors just comes naturally. Interacting with patients and doctors keeps her charged up when she steps in as Treatment Coordinator. Seeing how well the doctors and staff come together to form a successful team is just one of the things she appreciates about her job.
Jennie Cairo

Jennie had a decade worth of experience in the field of dentistry before turning her talented hand to orthodontics. After years of experience at our office, she became our “Traffic Controller” and keeps the clinic running smoothly and efficiently. Directing traffic is just part of what she does as she also makes sure each office is ready to rock and roll at the start of each day. Her husband, Brian, and their daughters, Hannah and Keelie, enjoy family camping and baseball games. They also enjoy the just-for-fun races that they hold each summer at their personal go-kart track!
Alicia Czarnik
Orthodontic Assistant
Joined the team in 2005
Alicia has worked in the dental field since 1998 and transitioned to orthodontics in 2005. Alicia enjoys being a member of our team and part of such a wonderful “orthodontic family.” Working with the patients is Alicia's favorite thing about orthodontics. She loves getting to know each patient, and the families who come to our practice and building lasting friendships with each person she meets.
A native of Petersburg, Michigan, she currently resides in Temperance, Michigan with her husband, Scott, and kids Elyse and Braylon. In her spare time, Alicia loves boating, scrapbooking, and spending time with family.
Sarah Bernard, RDH, EFDA
Orthodontic Assistant
Joined the team in 2005
Learning new things and having a great time working with the talented team and friendly patients is something Sarah looks forward to each day at the office. Seeing the superb end results of a patient’s treatment gives her great appreciation for our doctors’ skill. Her two young sons, Landon and Jackson, keep her and her husband, Brent, busy and highly entertained. However, she still enjoys squeezing in an occasional outing with friends.
Dawn Buckzkowski, CDA, EFDA
Orthodontic Assistant

One of the things our patients can always count on is Dawn greeting them with a big, friendly smile! She enjoys working with patients and keeping them motivated to achieve their orthodontic goal of a great smile. Dawn stays fit by going to spinning classes and gets her share of cheerleading at home as she and her husband, Mike, cheer on their four sons, Austin, Corey, Evan and Joshua on the baseball diamond and football field.
Sarah Itoney

Sarah has been in the field of orthodontics since 1996 and loves how the high tech side of the office is balanced with fun and productivity. She takes pride in being a part of such a patient-friendly office and feels very blessed to be among the “best of the best!” Although she originates from Point Place, Ohio, Sarah and her husband, Matt, have made Lambertville, MI their home. Son, Dylan, and daughter, Audrey, plus their crazy dog, Woody, make for a well-rounded family. Boating is Sarah’s favorite summer pastime, while spending time with family and friends is always a year round activity.
Lashonda Boyd
Registered Dental Hygienist/Orthodontic Assistant

Lashonda handles all aspects of patient care from seating appliances and braces for patients to changing their wires. She enjoys working with her fellow team members and doctors in a warm, friendly setting. She excels at interacting with patients and explaining each aspect of patient care in an easy to understand format. Lashonda lives in Toledo, Ohio with her husband and two children. While she has a passion for shopping and also enjoys swimming, she truly values spending time with family..
Amy Schoppman
Financial Administrator
Joined The Team in 2004
Computing creative financial options to make orthodontic treatment easy for our patients is Amy’s specialty. She also takes care of all the “in’s and out’s” of insurance processing for patients. As the friendly face behind the front desk at our Maumee office, she enjoys seeing smiles transform visit by visit. She and her husband, Cliff, keep busy during the school year with children Joel, Devon, Jaiden and Riley, attending karate practice and tournaments. A pink fish, appropriately named Princess, and Zippy, the Pygmy frog, are on hand to round out their family unit. Summers are spent at the family cottage in Indiana where water skiing and wake boarding take center stage. When not engaged with family, Amy manages to find time to exercise and is also an avid reader.
Andrea Sumner

Andrea has been in the orthodontic field since 1996 and uses her years of experience to assist the doctors and handle patient care. Andrea likes the surprise that comes with each new day in the orthodontic office. It's always fun and never routine. The people are diverse, and the team is very easy to work with. She is very proud to be working for the best orthodontists in town! Andrea lives with her husband, Steve, and daughters Madelyn and Megan in Monclova, Ohio. When not working, she has fun reading, working out, and spending time with her family and friends. She loves to run and has been ramping up her fitness level by running half-marathons!
Tammy VanHove
Records Tech
Joined the team in 2012
Tammy specializes in keeping all our instruments sterile, helping out assistants by taking and processing x-rays, and also making invisible retainers for patients. She has been in the field of orthodontics since 2005 and is happy to be working in a state-of-the-art facility with knowledgeable doctors and friendly co-workers.
Tammy is a lifelong native of Riga, Michigan and enjoys spending time with her three children and six grandchildren. Going for walks, playing Bunco, and gardening and canning keep her busy in her spare time.

Valerie is from Seville Ohio. In her spare time she loves to go camping, traveling and exploring new areas. For fun she enjoys cooking, scrap booking and hanging out with family and friends.
Valerie's favorite thing about working in our office is the employees! "They make you feel like part of a huge family."
